Hagerty Hall in which my girlfriend work is the building that I visited almost everyday in pass year and half. it is very nice four-floor building and cross the Ohio Union Parking Garage. As most people know it is Foreign Language Center of the OSU. However, today, I would like to talk about several interesting things that I found from Hagerty Hall. Frist, Hagerty has six entrances in all sides of building. that is interesting because I have never found this numbers of doors in the other building. I believe this could be a symbol of embrace that it opens to all of foreign countries no matter where you come from. It shows a equality of academic in the world. Further more, there is a cafe in the first floor, and TVs are on the walls around the cafe and they provide all different TV shows from different countries. Therefore, when people take break between classes, they can have a cup of coffee, choose a comfortable seat and watch the TV shows from their own countries. This place is the best place that people can meet people from different countries. This place improves communication between counties, and make people have chance to know people from foreign countries and to learn different cultures. If you want to learn a little bit foreign language but not from formal class, here is the best choice

I've been to Hagerty a few times too, and I've also noticed that there are so many entrances! I like the way you interpret it as "a symbol of embrace", though sometimes I do find this building confusing haha. Thanks for sharing about it and I'll try going to the cafe next time! I would love to see a Hong Kong TV show in America.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will have a good time, may be some new friends
DeleteI have never been to Hagerty Hall but it sounds like a cool place to spend a break. The cafe area is especially inviting because of all of the cultures that are brought together in that space. It would be interesting to see TV shows from around the world. From the standpoint of space it is interesting to think that in that small place all kinds of cultures can be brought together and OSU students can experience and learn of each others native characteristics.
ReplyDeleteI believe if you take time to be there, you will find some cool things.
DeleteI, too, have not been to Hagerty Hall and had no idea how culturally involved it is! It honestly sounds like one of the coolest buildings on campus now and I want to go check it out! Hagerty sounds like a great place for foreign students especially, to assimilate and meet new individuals who are interested in another cultural just as they, coming to America are probably curiously indulgent in the American culture. And obviously it is a place that is part of your identity with someone close to you that works there, so thus far in college it has played an important part of your daily routine. I plan to go some time for sure!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, and I hope you'll find some fine there.
DeleteShengjie,
ReplyDeleteI have been to hagerty hall because I take spanish and my teacher's office is located there. I think this building is a great symbol of what Ohio State is all about because this university welcomes everyone all colors, shapes, and sizes. It attracts different personalites and nationalities and chooses to bring them together. This one building allows foreign students and non-foreign to come together as one! Lirpa don't feel bad I get confused from the many doors as well!! haha I even got lost one time on the first floor!
haha, I tried all of those doors, and the most I like is the door next to the cafe.
DeleteI took my ESL class in autumn quarter and I never noticed the entrance thing about Hagerty hall. It's preety cool
ReplyDeletepretty*
Deletewell, I like to pay attention to some small things.
DeleteHagerty Hall is a great place to be. I also liked their cafe, it's really nice. Especially because when you sit in front of certain tv's, above the table is also a small speaker which gives you the sound to certain tv's. That interests me because there are several tv's in the cafe, but you only hear the one you're sitting in front of. I also liked how you compared all the entrances to "a symbol of embrace". It makes you think if that was the intention of the architect who built it.
ReplyDeleteI like that small speaker too. I almost watch TVs there every day.
